Private Pilot License (PPL)
Our GCAA (UAE General Civil Aviation Authority) approved syllabus covers Ground, Simulator & Flight Training. It provides the required information & knowledge, and is designed to be flexible so as to maximise benefit to both professional full-time and part-time hobby flyers.
Privileges of a Private Pilot License
The PPL permits the holder to act as the pilot-in-command on any aircraft below 5700 Kgs. for non-commercial purposes i.e. not for renumeration. Thousands of private pilots around the world enjoy the benefit of a private pilot license by hiring airplanes to fly for fun and recreation with friends and families. A lot of businessmen and famous personalities from the world of entertainment also prefer to fly their own airplanes for business or holiday trips which saves them a lot of time and money. The benefits of a PPL are many.
Course Entry Requirements
• Minimum age of 17 years for course enrolment
• Minimum age of 18 years before license can be issued
• GCAA Class II Medical certificate
• Police good conduct certificate
The normal duration for the PPL course is 6 to 12 months for part-time students, depending on individual pace. Full-time students on a professional program tend to finish faster.
Training Requirements
Ground School: This stage of training provides you with the knowledge that is essential for becoming a proficient pilot. Lectures are conducted on the following subjects:
• Air Law and Operational Procedures
• Human Performance and Limitations
• Navigation and Radio Aids
• Meteorology
• Aircraft (General) and Principles of Flight
• Flight Performance and Planning
• Communications (Radiotelephony)
By law, 100 hours of ground school are essential for PPL preparation. Qualified instructors conduct ground lessons based on a batch system, or on an individual basis, if required.
EAS is also a GCAA-approved examination centre. This enables us to conduct examinations in-house and hence saves our students valuable time by providing them the flexibility of appearing for an exam at any time convenient to them thereby avoiding the need to make time-consuming exam bookings with the GCAA.
Flight Training: For flight training, the school operates 5 US-built four-seat aircraft comprising of two Garmin G1000 equipped Cessna C172S single-engine aircraft, 2 Piper Warrior PA28-161 single-engine aircraft, and 1 Piper Seminole PA44-180 multi-engine aircraft. Training toward the PPL requires a minimum of 40 hours of flight training with an instructor. In addition, 5 hours of training is also done on a GCAA-approved ELITE PCATD (Personal Computer based Aviation Training Device).
To be awarded a PPL license, candidates must successfully complete the GCAA PPL ground school examinations as well as pass a flight test with a GCAA-approved designated flight examiner. The passing grade for the GCAA ground school examinations is 75%. EAS ensures the success of each candidate in the flight/ground tests by administering its own ground school quizzes and flight tests with EAS instructors.
